Project internship

The GIZ implemented Project “Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change-NDC Implementation” and “Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change-Climate Partnership" based in Beijing offers a postion as project assistant, starting as soon as possible.

About GIZ in China

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH works to build a future worth living around the world. As a non-profit, German-government owned company, GIZ has more than 25,000 staff in around 120 countries, who implement international cooperation projects in the field of sustainable development. We work together with local partners on behalf of the German Government, as well as other national and international clients (e.g. EU, private enterprises and foundations).

In the People's Republic of China, GIZ has been working for 40 years, cooperating with the Chinese partners and providing policy advice and human capacity development on all administrative levels (national, provincial, city) on topics such as sustainable transport, environmental protection, renewable energies, sustainable urban development, or vocational training. With growing challenges in terms of sustainable development around the world including in Germany and in the People's Republic of China, GIZ provides an impactful work environment that allows to grow personally and to contribute to international cooperation on sustainable development.

About the Projects

Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change

With China’s pledge of peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060, the country is demonstrating an increased determination to a profound low-carbon transformation of its economy and society. The Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change is supported by the German Federal Government through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

To facilitate the Sino-German policy dialogue on climate change and to accelerate climate action in these two countries, the Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change provides a knowledge-sharing platform for technical exchange among stakeholders. It was established to facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and to raise climate ambition among stakeholders in their decarbonisation pathways.

Now there are two specific projects:

Sino-German Cooperation on Climate Change – Climate Partnership

Our work focuses on the following areas:

Climate Policy on Mitigation, Adaptation, Transparency

Trilateral Cooperation on Climate Change

Regional Cooperation on NDC Implementation with Several Chinese Provinces

Industrial Decarbonization

Carbon Markets

Sustainable Finance, Climate Finance

Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment

Non-CO₂ Greenhouse Gas Mitigation

Job description

Location: P.R. China, Beijing

Internship period: Six months, as soon as possible, at least four days a week

Deadline for applications: October 9, 2024

Your tasks

The successful applicant will work in an international team supporting a wide range of project activities, such as:

Searching, translating climate policies news, drafting website or WeChat articles in Chinese and English to disseminate to relevant stakeholders,

Drafting knowledge product (e.g. research briefing/case studies),

Editing a WeChat account for event reports, publications, or policy news,

Supporting in organizing various activities (e.g. preparing hybrid events and conferences, facilitating logistics and payment).

Qualification Requirement:

You are a bachelor/master student in international relations, law studies, economics, environmental sciences, favorably with a focus on climate policy; experience in the field of climate policy (through studies, internships, or other activities) is a plus. English language skills are favorable. You have a high interest in policy reporting, communication and computer applications.

Highly motivated in climate policy and willingly to learn both conceptual and administrative skills,

Can work independently on multiple simultaneous tasks,

Is a professional team player with excellent intercultural social skills,

Excellent command of MS Office applications, especially Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

Note: Chinese needs to be your native language; only candidates who are enrolled in university in China are eligible for this internship
